Sand Tiger Shark / Carcharias taurus
The sand tiger shark, one of the most interesting members of the Viasea Aquarium family, has sharp teeth that are visible even when its mouth is closed. This species, which lives in warm waters in all oceans of the world except the Eastern Pacific, is frequently seen near the shore, on the sandy surface. This is where the name "sand tiger shark" comes from.
The sand tiger shark is known as the only shark species that comes to the surface and swallows air. By doing this, it stores air in its body, allowing it to remain motionless underwater without sinking.
The sand tiger shark has a sharp, pointed head and a bulky body. Despite this, it is an extremely good swimmer. It is a very skillful hunter and is mostly active at night. It feeds mostly on small fish, but also hunts crustaceans and squid.
They live for an average of 25 years. They can reach a weight of 160 kg and a length of 3.5 m.
