Otter / Lutra lutra
More than a dozen species of small but ferocious fish living in the rivers of South America are known as piranhas. Piranhas are divided into two classes: carnivorous and herbivorous. These fish are freshwater fish and cannot live in saltwater (like the sea). Piranhas live in the rivers of the Amazon basin, which covers a very large area. Four or five species are particularly dangerous.
The most distinctive feature of piranhas is their large, sharp teeth. The razor-like teeth, arranged in the upper and lower jaws connected by strong muscles, interlock tightly when the mouth closes. This allows the piranha to tear large pieces from prey much larger than itself. They live for an average of 20 years.
