This species, which feeds primarily on seeds in its natural habitat, has survived for five million years in the harsh conditions of Australia's arid regions. Like many birds, budgerigars have tetrachromatic color vision. Male budgerigars are one of the best-known parrot species for their ability to talk. Female budgerigars also have the ability to talk, but males are slightly more prone to it.
